The week of Bethany and Brian’s engagement session was just grey and cold – you could tell the skies were just anxious to let it pour… I hoped that for her session it actually stayed the same and that the rain would hold off a while longer.  Mother Nature didn’t see things our way… apparently the rain doesn’t care if only have that one day to do a session – lol!  As it turns out, we had to do their session in a couple of ‘stages’.  We would take a few shots, and then run inside to wait a little longer for the rain to settle a bit.  At one point we made great use of the weather and grabbed some umbrellas – those turned out to be my favorite images from the session!

I know I always say this – but I love getting to know my clients – I always feel blessed to be able to work with such amazing couples!!!!  Bethany and Brian are a sweet and laid back couple… I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in a few weeks!!!

I love June weddings! the weather is beautiful… there is a slight summer breeze… and love is always in the air!!!  LOL!!! Todd and Raquel celebrated their wedding day on an absolutely perfect day in June.  The absolute perfect June wedding!!!   Todd and Raquel celebrated their special day at the Wedgewood Banquet hall at Indian Hills Golf Course in Riverside (boy, that was a mouth-full… haha!).

The sun was shining, the breeze was going… and Raquel was one of the most relaxed and laid-back brides I have EVER encountered in 5 years!!! LOL!!! I love you Raquel – so calm, so laid back, so care-free.  She truly decided to not stress out at all that day…. whatever she needed to stress about was already planned out – and nothing was going to ruin her magical day. I LOVE that about her!  I’m not kidding… weddings can be very stressful… and although I do meet brides that don’t stress too much – those are few and far between. It is sooooo much more common for a bride to suddenly break a sweat because of her flowers, or her hair, or the bridal party (or her family… lol!) – that’s common to me… I know how to handle that.  I’ve been told that I need to open up a wedding counceling hot line! LOL!! I’ve been called the ‘Bride Whisperer’ … Not kidding!!!  – but that’s an entirely new post all together (yes… I’m working on a post about stress-free weddings).  Anywho.  Raquel was so laid back that I felt a little strange not having to reassure her about anything at all that day.

I can see how Todd and Raquel make such an absolutely perfect couple. Todd is such a sweet and shy person… and Raquel is so energetic – love them together soooooo much!!!!  They totally balance each other out so perfectly.

Raquel and Todd- you guys are so perfect … I loved sharing and capturing these moments for you!!! Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your totally peaceful and magical day!

I love meeting the most amazing, loving, and fabulous couples … EVER.  What makes them so fabulous?  Well… they love to laugh, they love to have fun, they love AND adore each other, and they truly love their families!  Erica and Kyle are so sweet and so kind (and so in love!)… and they have super cool (and incredibly adorable) baby boy!  Ok… I’m gonna say it – I loved their little guy!!!!! I saw him and just wanted to pick him up and just hug him (forget pictures… right?! LOL!)  He reminds me so much of my little boy.. shy, sweet, and ever so innocent!  I had to physically try my hardest not to take a million pictures of him! haha!

so… besides an adorable little boy… they also have an amazing family and group of friends! Everyone had soooo much fun… the drinks were flowing, the music was pumping, and everyone was just dancing the night away! I love my job!! LOL!!!

They had their oh So Fab Wedding at the Crestmore Manor in Riverside.

A couple of months ago I had a blast during Erika and Rene’s fabulous engagement session… they were fun, giggly, and ultra-fun!  So I KNEW they would have an awesome wedding!  Erika is such a sweet girl… just one of the nicest souls one could ever hope to meet.  Rene is also a nice guy, of course, but he is such a funny man! He loves to laugh and be silly – I think he does it to see Erika’s smile… and boy does she smile bright when he’s silly!!!  Her smile and laugh are filled with love for Rene – and it’s just adorable to see them together.

Erika and Rene had a very intimate wedding at the Moreno Valley Ranch Community Association – a very cute and intimate club-house style location.

One of my fav thigs about Erika’s wedding was her gorgeous dress – it was completely custom-designed and made just for her! she looked absolutely gorgeous and she totally knew how to rock it out!

Rene and Erika – thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a special day in your lives! and thank you for having so much fun, laughing so much, and for just being yourselves! :-)

I know I always say how much I love the couples that I work with… and I truly do! Each one of them holds a special place in my heart, and I feel so blessed to be able to share glimpses of their amazing lives!!!

Last week I spent a couple of hours with Melissa and her beautiful family.  I absolutely love Melissa… from the moment we met I knew she was a very sweet and inspiring person.  She is so amazing! Always cheering me on… she is one of my favorite clients/cheerleaders! Seriously.  She is so supportive of me and I love her for it! :-)

Melissa’s family is absolutely beautiful… I loved how incredibly shy and well-behaved their two children are – I hadn’t seen children so sweet and polite in such a long time!  Just complete CUTENESS.

Thank you guys for sharing these moments with me! I can’t wait for your wedding in a few months!!!

So today I was catching up on my reading.  That sounded so scholarly… right!?!?  LOL!! I actually was catching up on my magazine readings… haha!  I have always loved magazines (although, I have to admit I don’t always read them until months and months after I get them).  When I was growing up I was obsessed with Cosmo, Elle, and Glamour (of course).  Then when I went into fashion design I was all about “W”.

Now I’m really into “Rangefinder” and “Professional Photographer”.  Since I don’t often sit down to really read them (they just stack up on my living room coffee table), my hubby is always bugging me that I’m just wasting that subscription.  Today he even threatened to throw away the 2 years worth of magazines! Ghasp!!! How dare he… I know!!!

So to prove my point to him that I do get a lot from my subscriptions – I sat down for a couple of hours today and read like 10 magazines back to back!  This is how our conversation played out right after I was done – hubby: “so now that you’ve read them we can start throwing them away now… right”… me: ghasp “oh heck no! These magz are treasures… they’re so inspiring… you touch them and I toss your sports magz!”.  End of argument.

LOL!!!

Soooo… I basically wanted to share a great magazine article with you guys.  It’s an article from the March issue of “Professional Photographer”, it was written by Lorna Gentry – and it’s all about makeup and photography… my two favorite subjects!!  I sat there reading it and I kept nodding my head as I read – as if Lorna needed to see my approval! Lol!

So here’s the article almost word-by-word, with a few notes from me.

This first Tip she shared totally made me laugh because we’ve all encountered it, but I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned it – Do not go to a tanning booth or use a spray tan right before the wedding… (and let’s not even mention bottled tan lotions… those of us who have tried them have been through the umpa-loompa look before! Soooooo not cute!!!).  There really is little we can do even in post production to correct the umpa-loompa look… haha!

1.   Blend… Blend… Blend.  You can use your everyday makeup, but use more than you normally use every day.  You don’t want to look washed out, so you’ll need more makeup than usual so that it shows through beautifully in pictures.

2.  Sometimes less is more.  Use less makeup for a day wedding and more for evenings.  You can get dramatic with eye makeup.  I personally LOVE dramatic eye makeup – seriously it’s the best, and easiest, way to add glamour and drama to images!

3.  Don’t skimp on concealer.  Use a moisturized concealer on the thin, sensitive skin under the eyes.  If your concealer isn’t moisturizing, blend it with a skin cream.  For blemishes, first treat them with a natural or over-the-counter anti-inflammatory, then cover with concealer.

4.  Do a makeup trial run.  It’s the only sure-fire, stress-free way to make certain that your makeup will look beautiful.  I can’t even emphasize this enough! You have no idea how many brides I’ve met who have changed their mind about wedding makeup after doing their trial run.  Some of my brides have even told me how they decided to change makeup artists after they realized how unhappy they were with the pre-wedding experience.  You don’t want to go through a bad experience on your wedding day.  You won’t have time to execute a plan B or to really restart from scratch- you want to hash out all the issues before the wedding day.  If you’re going to use fake lashes, make sure you have worn them at least once before – otherwise you’ll feel anxious about them on your wedding day.

5.  Not all mineral makeup is created equal.  Titanium dioxide, a chemical used as sun block, can reflect flash, giving the bride a ghostly appearance.  In 2009 makeup artist Annie May launched a line of mineral makeup especially formulated for photography called Advanced Mineral Makeup.  May promises it won’t white-out the bride under flashI’ve never really seen this issue personally before… but it’s definitely something to think about.

6.  Use waterproof makeup with staying power.  You don’t want to spend your reception in the bathroom reapplying your makeup.  Foundation, eyeliner and mascara all should be waterproof.  And in case you cry (and you probably will), have a tissue or handkerchief handy to gently blot your tears right at the eye.  Just to add to this a little bit – you want to make sure that you don’t need to keep reapplying throughout the day. I have had several weddings where the brides makeup kept having to be reapplied so much that it cut our actual ‘camera time’ drastically, it really interfered with the flow of the images.  Of course, I personally didn’t think the makeup needed that much reapplication, but the bride felt a little too self conscious in the heat (which is understandable).  That handkerchief for your tears is great to gently blot the sweat from  your forehead (unless your wedding is in Palm Springs at noon in the middle of summer… in which case I just wish you luck! LOL!!)

7.  Keep your lips moisturized and colored. Dry lips look dreadful in photos.  Have someone carry your lipstick for you and touch up often.  Matte and gloss lipstick both photograph well, and be sure to blend lip liner for enhanced definition. Yeah…. What she said!! LOL!!

8.  Don’t forget the groom. If the groom is red faced due to too much sun (or drinking), a little powder can help.  That goes for shiny heads, too. And it’s a good idea to skip a tube of Chapstick in the groom’s pocket for his dry lips, as well as a handkerchief to dab well-wishers’ makeup smudges off his suit.  I had never thought of this before… LOVED the idea of the sheer powder for shiny foreheads!!!

9.  Don’t sprinkle on Glitter.  In photographs, it tends to look like little white spots, as if there’s something wrong with the camera.  OMG!! Don’t get me started on how much I dislike glitter on photographs! I had one sweet bride once that carried around her glitter stick (for lack of a better word for it).  She kept reapplying this thick glitter to her neck, arms, back, front, sides. I mean – EVERYWHERE.  I can’t even go into how long it took me in post production to get that glitter to fade back and not look like she had white polka-dots all over her!!!   I laugh now… but I wasn’t laughing then… haha! Glitter is just not photogenic.  Might I suggest shimmering lotion instead?… I mean, if you want some bling bling… focus on the jewelry.

10.  Remember to apply foundation and powder to your neck, shoulders and décolletage – you want your head to look like it belongs to your body! LOL!

And just because any post is better with a picture… some of nature’s fabulous and flawless beauty!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting one of the most fun weddings I’ve ever been to… the music was bumpin’ and the guest were dancing up a storm!!! …  I’ll get to that in a sec.

First… let me tell you a little bit about one of the sweetest couples I’ve ever met!!!  When I met the gorgeous Bride one of the first things she told me was that although He (the Groom) loves pictures, she didn’t like taking pictures. AT ALL.  She is so uncomfortable with pictures that she didn’t want to do an engement session at all… and He loves her so much that he wanted her to be happy (is that the cutest thing ever?!?!).

The Groom is such a sweet person… he was so excited to be marrying the love of his life – you could see this peaceful love and happiness in his eyes!!!

And the Bride… well, she was absolutely breathtaking!!! Seriosly.  Beutiful.  She was definitely shy … but it was so endearing to watch her be so shy and sweet!

Both of them were just so at peace with each other… they had this amazingly calming love about them.

Now… their reception… a total blast!  I love being at weddings where absolutely every guest is truly enjoying themselves.  Everyone was laughing… dancing… drinkin’… just having fun!!!  That kind of happiness is just contagious! It took all of my energy to not jump in the dance floor and make a fool of myself!!! LOL!!!
