Several weeks ago I had a blast getting to know Nancy and Junior.  They’re such a sweet and kind couple… very laid back and super super cute! :-) … I know, I know… I say that about all my couples. But, hey, what can I do if I attract the sweetest and most fabulous couples! lol!

These two are sooo laid back and so easy going… I love that about them.  When I arrived at their engagement session in Laguna Beach, they had already spent quite some time with their videographer… so I was honestly a little nervous.  I was just really worried that they would be tired and ‘fed up’ of the camera by the time I got there… I was so pleasantly surprised that they are such great troopers!!! they didn’t even seem tired at all… they were smiling and as sweet as ever!

They have this sweet shy-ness about them that is just endearing.  But, as most of my couples, that quickly faded away as the sun started setting… check out their ultra steamy and fabulous sunset shots!!!  Maybe it was that sultry and romantic sunset, or the fact that it was getting dark, or that the beach wasn’t as crowded by thend – I don’t know what it was, but boy did things get nince and steamy by the end of our session!! haha!

Nancy was actually the bridesmaid at a wedding I did just last week! and she looked absolutely stunning as a bridesmaid… so I can only imagine how gorgeous she’ll  be as the bride!!!  Junior looked really handsome too! lol!  I’m soooo excited for their upcoming wedding!!!!

So my annoying migraine finally decided to give me a break and take a hike… boy it took a while this time! ugh!  I get so frustrated when I can’t even focus…which only makes my head hurt even more… it’s a nasty little cycle… haha!

I finally got my images from a couple of weeks ago ready to post – better late than never, right?  :-)

Last week I had a lot of fun spending some time with Linda and Augie… and their 3 beautiful children.  Aren’t they such a cute family! check out their brand new baby… I absolutely adore chubby-wooby babies!  I remember a few years ago, back when Jovanni was like 3 months old – my little niece came to visit and pointed out how his chubby little hands and his chubby little arms.  She asked us if is wrists hurt, since they looked like they were about to explode!!! LOL!! Linda’s chunky-munky wittle baaabbbby (yes… that’s my baby talk! LOL!) – had those same wrists… I LOVED it!!!

Linda and Augie – you guys have such a beautiful family … I know your wedding will be super special! I can’t wait for your Malibu wedding next month!

Last weekend was a little busy for me… even though I didn’t shoot a wedding… well – I guess it wasn’t super busy, but boy did I feel like I was all over the place! LOL!

Saturday morning I drove down to Laguna Beach for an early morning engagment/family photo session… then, since I was in OC (LOVE OC, by the way!! :-) ), I did a consult with a super cute couple.  They were so much fun, so incredibly sweet, and I can tell they’re super romantic! (he proposed on a hot air balloon!! can it get more romantic than that!?!?!).  Anyways… I had a blast chatting with them for a while.  I hope to hear back from them … :-)

Then Sunday came – and I think this is why I think I’ve been super busy – this is the day my migraine began! ugh! I hate migraines.  I’ve sufferend from migraines for almost 10 years now.  Funny fact – my migraines began around the time I started dating my hubby! LOL! – I always tell him I’m allergic to him! haha!  Anywhoooo…. back to my current migraine… you know what’s worse than anything – having a migraine while your toddler decides that it’s fun to turn the lights on and off while your niece decides to play with the volume of the TV! LOL!!!  – I laugh now…. but I was not laughing then (I admit, I was in the corner of the room under all the pillows and blankets I could find… sitting in the fetal position while shedding a tear of pain! LOL! – yeah… I’m a bit of a drama queen!)

Sooooo…. I’m behind on my post processing… but my goal is to catch up this week (keeping my fingers crossed here! :-) ).

So for now…. I have a teaser image from the wedding I shot 2 weeks ago.

Should you have an engagement session?

Well… if your package comes with one, or you can afford to get one – then YES!!!!  You should definitely have an engagement session.  Not to say that they are an absolute necessity… in all honesty, your wedding will still go on even if you don’t have one.  I actually never had an engagement session (although I wish I would have).  My husband is not a fan of pictures … I was lucky he even agreed to a professional photographer on our wedding day!!! (He wanted to just give people those cheap little table top disposable cameras!!! Don’t even get me started about those!!!!)  So since it took me long enough to persuade him to agree to have a photographer on our wedding day… I decided to not push the engagement session too much.  So… no engagement session for me.

Why do I love engagement sessions?  Well… think about it… you’re going to be followed around all day long by your photographer… they will become your shadow for the day.  Would you rather that day to be awkward having this ‘stranger’ follow you around in your most intimate moments?  Or would you like to maybe meet them ahead of time so that you’re more comfortable with them?  It’s like if you needed to find a date for a huge family reunion … would you take a complete stranger? Or would you rather take a friend?  Of course, your photographer is not your date… but your photographer is going to be photographing some very intimate moments between you and your future husband… so of course you want to be as comfortable with them as possible.  During an engagement session you can take that time to get to know them… get to know their personality… get to know their style… and, best of all, get some cute pictures out of it!

For the photographer… it’s great because they get to know YOU.  I love getting to know my clients, and seeing just how shy or outgoing they might be.  By the end of the engagement session I can make a mental note that a couple is really outgoing, or that they are really shy.  This little one-hour session will get me prepared for the day of the wedding.  I can also be prepared for when someone just can’t seem to keep their eyes open in a picture.  Yes … it’s perfectly normal and common –and it’s great to know ahead of time.  I can make sure to make them aware that they do tend to close their eyes – so that we can figure out if there is a solution (maybe not using flash, if that’s the reason).  Sometimes even knowing that you do tend to close your eyes a lot does enough to keep you conscious of it and you tend to do it less!

So what will happen if you can’t do an engagement session?

You’ll be totally fine!

I have done many weddings where I’ve never met the couple until the day of the wedding (even a few where all the contracts/deposits were done on-line and through mail) – and they’ve all been successful and came out beautifully.  I do have to admit that, at first, most of those couples are definitely more shy around me and it does take a while to get them to open up and relax a little bit (more so than couples that do have an engagement session).  This is only a problem when there is a very limited amount of time for formals… when every minute counts.  If it takes 10 minutes to get the couple to smile … then it can be a little stressful.  But, luckily, I’ve never had such extreme situation yet.  I like to think that my easy-going personality is contagious… and most of my clients do tell me that I helped calm them down even when they wanted to scream.
